Illosporiopsis christiansenii at Cullaloe LNR on Xanthoria parietina

Lecanora carpinea

This was a welcome find at Cullaloe LNR on Aspen. NBN maps show the species as almost ubiquitous but much of Fife lacks squares for "ubiquitous" species for want of surveying (presumably? hopefully?)

Other species present on the chopped-off branch of Populus were L.chlarotera, L.symmicta, Ledicella elaeochroma, Xanthoria parietina, and Opegrapha atra on the trunk.

These seem to represent the Lecanorion subfuscae alliance of well lit branches and twigs. The coverage of the branch was heavily dominated by L.chlarotera

Cullaloe LNR

An interesting rose has managed to accumulate a few twiggy lichens - not doing badly at all.

An alder had mostly uninteresting smooth bark species with maybe X.polycarpa on the only twig I could reach. The rest were too far above and maybe were hugely interesting!

Maybe the best find of the morning was what I hope to be Gyalecta jenensis. We shall see, but that peachy/apricotty colour, the pale crenulate apothecia, the orbicular young apothecia and the substrate (mortar) make me optimistic

INTRO
Birches at Cullaloe don't have a great deal of lichens on them - most of what is there is on young branches/twigs. A characteristic species is Lecanora symmicta, which is seemingly present on every twig axil.

The smooth bark of Ash makes for pretty lichens. A characteristic species on Ash at Cullaloe is Arthonia radiata, which can cover large areas.
